China payment guidance

What can the Alipay card checker tell me?

Check reviewed guidance for your card network and one Alipay operation in mainland China. Find out what the evidence covers before you rely on it for a trip.

The checker needs JavaScript and a connection. This introduction and the payment guides are readable without running a check.

One service, one region, one action

The checker is limited to Alipay in mainland China. It does not check WeChat Pay, direct card acceptance, or payment rules in Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan.

You can select card linking, merchant payment, person-to-person transfer, or cash withdrawal. These are separate questions: being able to add a card does not establish that you can use it for every action.

The current public guides cover four scoped combinations for foreign visitors: Visa card linking, Visa merchant payment, Mastercard card linking, and UnionPay merchant payment. They provide network-level guidance, not confirmation for an individual bank or card.

Other networks and actions can be submitted to the checker, but an available option is not a claim of support. A missing reviewed combination means a gap in our guidance, not that the card or action is unsupported.

What details do I need?

Required: card network
Use the network logo on your card, such as Visa or Mastercard. Your bank name alone does not identify the network.
Required: operation
Choose the single action you want to check. Run a separate check for linking a card and paying a merchant.
Optional: bank, issuing country, card type, and account context
These details may narrow which evidence applies. Leave them unspecified if you do not know. The form preselects visitor context for a non-mainland-issued card; change or clear it if that is not your situation. A result may ask for more context when the evidence needs it.

We do not ask for a card number, CVV, PIN, bank login, Alipay password, or identity documents. Do not enter them in any field.

How should I read the result?

Reviewed guidance found
Read the compatibility status, explanation, conditions, and limitations together. The evidence may match a broader network or service rule rather than your exact card. Check confidence, source links, review date, and recheck date. Even “supported” is guidance, not a successful transaction confirmation.
More details needed
The evidence needs additional context. Add or correct the listed details and submit again; this is not a decline.
No conclusive guidance
The service has not established a reliable answer for this context. This does not mean “unsupported.” Confirm with Alipay and your card issuer and arrange a backup payment method.
Review in progress
A review is pending, not a compatibility answer. Wait for the interval shown before submitting again. The page does not automatically retry.
Checker unavailable or check could not be completed
A service, configuration, or connection problem prevented a completed check. It says nothing about your card. Follow the displayed instructions or use the dated payment guides while the tool is unavailable.

What this cannot promise

Alipay eligibility, identity verification, issuer controls, card variants, merchant acceptance, and transaction limits can affect the real outcome. Guidance can change after a source review. Confirm current requirements in Alipay and with your issuer before departure, and keep another way to pay available.

The checker compares context with evidence; it does not contact your bank to verify your card, link it to Alipay, or attempt a transaction.

What happens to the details I submit?

When you choose Check compatibility, the interactive form sends the selected network and operation, the fixed mainland China/Alipay scope, and any optional context you include to our Supabase compatibility service. This is a server request, not a browser-only lookup.

Only share the non-sensitive context needed for the check. The trip planner’s browser-only storage is separate from this service. Read our privacy information for service processing and retention details.
